In the mid 1990s, groups of supporters from various league clubs got together to play the very first Worldnet in Nottingham in the summer of 1996. Ever since then, the popularity of the tournament has grown year on year with team coming not only from England and Scotland but Europe too.
In 2000, the tournament found a more permanent venue at the University of Leeds. In 2008, a veterans tournament was added to the scheduled aimed at players over 30. Part of the Worldnet tournament also sees the IFA Cup Final and the IFA International between England and Scotland.
